To decrease the amount of spam. There is a misunderstanding, the same with anti-cheat. Captchas will always be solvable, there will always be people who cheat. The point is not to eliminate all bots / cheaters, but to only have to deal with a smaller number of them.

To this day I still dont understand why they didnt do it this way.
Oh well, at least now we are on a platform which has a future.
Reddit being on the stock market… Like what the actual fuck…

However, if they say ‘okay guys, we heard you, one more year of support!’. This way they could farm so much PR points its insane.
Cant guess which one they will choose tbh.
- Comment on Painful day for tech titans as EU finally sinks its regulatory teeth into them 8 months ago:
Yeah, but until then we can support these projects. Even a one-time 10€ donation can go a huge distance, or monthly 1€ even. These add up.
P.S. To any open source devs, please allow us to donate yearly recurring 10-15€! There are so many projects to support, but i have to live from something as well.
- Comment on Lemmy Active Users looking good 8 months ago:
Even if you agree with something, you can play the ‘devils advocate’ and say what is wrong. You need to look at both sides.
I for example despise Apple. But i gotta admit their phones are pretty good if you just want a smartphone. Or if everything you have is apple, then the ecosystem is really nice.
Try to understand the other side, and be the opposing person. So these conversations can happen.
- Comment on We are in Brave's search results! 8 months ago:
While I agree, but i tried Brave Search for a few weeks, and it seemed pretty good.
I wouldnt use Brave Browser, because Vivaldi is there (if you need Chromium.) But for a search engine which is free? DuckDuckGo maybe?
P.S. Kagi search is pretty good if you are willing to pay.

I still use spotify as well. It works for me, i just found like 10 new songs last week. At the same time, last year i listened 2hrs/day on average.
BUT at the same time, every few months i export my whole playlists, just in case, using this site.

I dont understand it either. I would happily donate to signal yearly like 10-15€, but 5 every month? No, thats just too much sorry.
- Comment on It is essential to stop using Chrome. Under the pretense of saving users from third-party spyware, Google is creating an ecosystem in which Chrome itself is the spyware. 10 months ago:
For me it is only 5 extensions really which are essential. uBlock Origin, Dark reader, Sidebery & Gesturify & User agent switcher (it can come in handy every once in a while).
P.S. There is a little caveat to vertical tabs which i forgot. You have to follow an easy 5 step guide on how to hide horizontal tabs when sidebery is active.
- Comment on Why is installing a different OS/Custom Rom on phones a huge hassle? 10 months ago:
Yeah, xiaomi mi 9t with pixelos. Then Universal Android Debloater, disable all the telemetry (wish I could just use this thing without google, but thats a topic for another day), got a new case and battery. It literally feels like i just bought a new phone even though this thing will be 5 years old!

Vertical tabs: Sidebery. It might actually be better than the Vivaldi native. I havent used vivaldi with vertical tabs that much, its just a work/secondary browser for me.
Gestures: Gesturify. This is just better than the vivaldi native one.
Tab tiling: well you got me on this one. This is actually pretty neat.
To be clear, I like vivaldi as well, it is my chromium of choice but with the above two extensions firefox is chefs kiss.
- Comment on Weather app asking for permission to manage calls 10 months ago:
Yeah its so freaking sad. It could be such an awesome platform (in some sense it already is) but of course Google has to put their greedy little fingers on it.
The worst part is that it has tons of literal bloatware. I tried ArrowOS without GApps on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, and it was fast while sparing the battery! It had the original battery and I couldnt believe that it could last 2 days easily with light usage.
Then I tried PixysOS and damn, 3GB of RAM was barely enough.

Whats the need for it? Another great operating systems engineer emerging from it even though the project itself might not be ‘useful’. You only truly learn stuff when actively doing it.
One day he might be a significant contributor to Linux!

Good luck! Your imagination is the only limit!
P.S. Its kinda crazy how it changed my view of the world. If there is anything that is kinda troublesome, most of the time the first thing that comes to mind is: ‘Can I print something that would help?’ Then maybe I realize there are better options out there, or that right now dont have time for it. x)

If you need a UI to have albums and share them then yes, the previously mentioned Immich. I host it as well, and it is truly awesome.
One caveat though: it is still pretty early in development, there might be breaking changes. For example a few weeks ago you needed to update the docker compose file because they changed dependencies.
- Comment on Pluralistic: "If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing" 11 months ago:
Yeah i agree, that most people do not pirate because of morality, but because pirating is more convenient meanwhile being way cheaper, you said it yourself. I do not watch a whole lot of movies or shows, but for example if i could buy Arcane, I would, but instead I can only watch it if I buy a Netflix subscription. I dont like this arbitrary limitation to be honest, you could buy movies back in the day.
For games, it is the case, because steam is actually a good service. People got what they wanted from Baldurs Gate 3 plus it is on a service which gives you tons of features. For example netflix on the other hand just limits how you consume content instead of enabling you other features.
One more thing, when Netflix was the only streaming service, people actually paid for it. Now that it is worse, pricier and there are more competing streaming services, it is way more convenient to pirate.
- Comment on Pluralistic: "If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing" 11 months ago:
Of course they do, there will always be people who pirate. Most people dont mind paying for stuff and services if it respects them.
There is Baldurs Gate 3 for example, you can buy it on GOG without DRM, and I highly doubt it made a dent in their sales.
- Comment on YouTube warns it might make your viewing experience worse if you don't turn off your ad-blocker 11 months ago:
It is not ‘might’. We know they will do something like that.
Before AI went viral, how much did Giogle search improve, Youtube at all? Not at all really, but they cranked up the adverts. So now i am paying for Kagi search, I also sponsor open source projects so dont tell me that I am entitled. Youtube is the last Google product that cannot be replaced as of right now.
At the end of the day all i want is to be a customer, not a product.
- Comment on YouTube warns it might make your viewing experience worse if you don't turn off your ad-blocker 11 months ago:
I would gladly pay for it. BUT
- it is owned by google
- monopoly (i am waiting when will they announce a new tier of subscription with limited ads, and increase the price of the current model)
- i wouldnt pay for extra features, i would only pay for not making my experience worse, and this is probably the biggest reason for me.

- Comment on Kagi search has improved their ultimate plan 1 year ago:
You can generate a link, which has a token in the url, so you can search while in incognito (or even another browser.)
And to be fair, i pay $10 now because i hope one day it will only cost 5. It does not seem far fetched because they did just lower prices like a week ago. (Unlimited search was 25, now it costs 10)
