- Comment on Bluesky and Mastodon users are having a fight that could shape the next generation of social media 9 months ago:
When Twitter was bought by Musk I rushed to create myself a Mastodon. My hope was that most of the interesting, thoughtful people I followed on Twitter would eventually end up on Mastodon as Musk slowly ruined the platform. I kept my Twitter up just to keep tabs on them and grab their Mastodon handles as they shared them.
In the end, around half of them created Mastodon accounts that I follow to this day. All of them are inactive now.
At the same time I noticed more and more of them creating BS accounts. I think around 80% of them ended up in it. They’re still quite active in BS to this day.
I open Mastodon and BS once daily. Former rarely has new posts, latter always has.
I really wanted all of them on Mastodon. I don’t trust a corpo like BS. But the particular type of crowd I followed on Twitter (progressive essayists/humanities people, game journalists, artists, non-dev hobbyists, etc) seems to have mostly gone to BS, stayed on Twitter, gone to Cohost or back to Tumblr, or abandoned social media. I did find some interesting people active on Mastodon, mostly accesibility advocates, a couple of devs of games I loved and a few non brainrotten IT people. But the level of activity from my spheres of interest seems much higher on BS right now sadly.

Oh, didn’t know. I played it with zero microtransactions. I’m sure there’s a certain way though

Shorts games of about 10hs from before 2019?
- King of Dragon Pass: Tribe management game/text adventure with illustrations. Felt it was interesting in both mechanics and vibes
- Plants vs Zombies: Addictive comedy-themed tower defense
- Alundra: PS1’s Zelda
- Gris: Atmospheric 2D puzzle platformer
- Celeste: Rewarding 2D platformer with nice music
- The Lion’s Song: Graphic aventure light on gameplay and heavy on story and atmosphere. 4 chapters about early 20th century Austrian artists and scientists with themes like art, gender, identity, memory, society, etc.
- Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You: You play as a government employee tasked with finding people deemed as terrorists by the gov by scouring their social networks. There’s different ways to play it

I already checked the list someone shared in some other thread, but many of the accounts that cover games there are inactive.

Yep, I know antisemitism has a long long story, my great grandparents came to my country running away from it at the start of the last century. And islamophobia is going really strong right now too. But I do think there’s higher chances of things like that happening between the years 2000-2500 than between 1000-2000. If the recent pattern with Christianity also happens to Islam and Judaism, fervent religious feeling might diminish in the long term (even if there’s occasional flare-ups here and there) and that coupled with sheer time/centuries might help ease the tensions.

I didn’t took it to mean “Israel will be erased” but “Israel and Palestina will be fused”. So maybe it won’t be named Israel but Israel-Palestina (kinda like Bosnia-Herzegovina) or something like that. Of course that seems impossible today but who knows, maybe there’s a timeline where that’s the name of the country 500 years into the future.

People here are just gonna tell you to leave (I have done so myself) but if you can’t for whatever reason something that can help is an extension like Blue Blocker which automatically blocks (or you can set it to mute) blue check marks as you encounter them. That way you don’t give them money for their horrible baits. While I was at Twitter waiting until the people I followed shared their new socials (sadly most went to BlueSky instead of Mastodon so I lost them anyway) I used Blue Blocker in that manner. You can set exceptions for certain accounts tho I didn’t, it mercilessly nuked all checkmarks from my Fred and reveales the bare Twitter behind. The result was somewhat like old Twitter at first but eventually it does get kinda slow as most of the valuable accounts become inactive. On the bright side that made leaving so much easier, so if you want to leave but need a motivator there’s one that might help you.

Not proud nor ashamed, and you seems to imply LLMs are needed in all human fields

Huh, I felt the 12/20 was a bit low but I guess not so much. As someone that has never used an image generator (or an LLM for that matter, chatGPT not even once baby) nor has actually worked at tech (though I have been learning programming on my own) and doesn’t even know how to draw… I guess I didn’t do too bad.
- Comment on X drops headlines from articles, as new report details its bleeding ad revenue 1 year ago:
These are all hunches. I’ll add my own: he was initially just posturing about buying it but when he was forced to do it he was motivated by many things (his personal dislike of Twitter’s userbase -which was only partly leftist though it was a very vocal and hip even if sometimes unhinged and somewhat puritanical brand of leftism-, what he perceives happened to his daughter, the Saudi interests, his “I’m not owned! I’m not owned!” personality, etc.). Motivated to do what? Well initially it seems to me he wanted to transform it into more of a right-wing Elon cult (and he somewhat succeeded with the right-wing part). But the mass reaction was a destruction of his reputation. Before this he was usually clowned just by leftists but now it’s by a good chunk of the general public. My hunch is that he has started to like more and more the idea that he is “sabotaging Twitter from the inside” as revenge for the aforementioned reasons or just “for the lulz” (it seems he likes to think he does grave things for the lulz, maybe it’s desperation to fit in or cope). Wether this intentional sabotage is something that crossed his mind from the very start or something he picked up from his fans (“he… he can’t be taking these kinds of decisions, right guys? He’s a genius! He must be doing it all on purpose! He wants to tank Twitter”) it does sound like something that mends his ego a bit and also the only move that could maybe help restore his old PR image of brilliant player, real life Tony Stark.
- Comment on Now that we're finally out of reddit, can we finally get different tag for NSFW and NSFL? 1 year ago:
I don’t care about Reddit (or about growing Lemmy) as much as the average post I see in Lemmy, but if you wanted to migrate people from the former to the latter this is one of the easier ways to help do it. It’s one of those small quality of life things that are asked for periodically. If Lemmy had it it’d be mentioned in Reddit every time people are pissed with the site (which is every day for most sites, including Reddit). It’d be free mouth to mouth publicity for Lemmy
- Comment on What to play after experiencing Chrono Trigger? 1 year ago:
What I’ve heard is that it’s very much like Chrono Trigger aesthetics-wise but very different regarding writing quality. Now, a lot of people play JRPGs not necessarily for their plot, story, character motivation/development and quality of prose but for their particular atmosphere crafted by their use of graphics, music, animation/sprites, etc and there’s nothing wrong with that, so maybe it will be your vibe

I think it’s what you say but since he took over the “he is doing it on purpose” theory has been grown and been repeated so much that he’s gotta be aware of it (especially with how too online he seems to be) and will probably endorse it in the future to shield himself behind it.
