I recently refurbished it myself which involved delidding the CPU and replacing the thermal paste on it. It was quite a job and found many guides online.

First I tried the fishing line method and that didn’t work at all. Second i tried the razor method and almost damaged the circuitry. Last I settled on the aluminium can method where you cut a long strip of aluminium can and create two handles each end do you don’t cut your fingers off. If donning it yourself recommend cutting several of them and when you use the first one take particular note of getting the length correct so you can leverage it correctly.

I used a hair drier to soften the glue and sawed through it with the aluminium can strip. Aluminium is softer than the circuitry so there is less risk of damage.

I didn’t repair the laser as it cost too much for my budget so I flashed the rom to custom and transfer my disks digitally.
