- Comment on Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? 1 year ago:
no, been a freebie user since Google Readers died and honestly, for the way I use it, to pop on and scroll through the feed then clicking on some articles? I’ve never felt limited or like I needed to pay to do anything.
- Comment on Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? 1 year ago:
RSS is great for following blogs and sites of specific interests, like local sites, or sites about specific subjects. You get ALL the updates. For example. I live in Baltimore and have a bunch of local sites in my RSS reader.
Reddit/Lemmy, on the other hand, is a more democratically human curated and upvoted aggregator so while it hits all the popular stuff beyond the topics you follow on RSS, it will miss a lot too.
So I use both.
Feedly for hundreds of sites of interest. And Reddit and now Lemmy for the rest.
Good stuff!

- Comment on Why do most religious conservatives support capitalist ideology? 1 year ago:
Not sure if you are being serious. There are levels of socialism and social safety networks that still allow democracy and even capitalism. It’s regulated heavily, wealth is limited, and resources are shared to those who need it.
Bible Jesus fought systemic poverty & the shunned in society, made it very clear how he felt about the rich & powerful.
It’s mind-boggling to consider neoliberal christianity. It literally goes against everything your god/god’s son fought for… I don’t understand how christians aren’t leading the fight against wealth inequality, systemic poverty, and improved social systems.
“How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.”
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’”

Agreed! Less pressure or need to scale. Even if growth stopped today, we have millions of people to interact with!

It’s normal. Chill. Not like Threads that lost 80% of its active users.

don’t understand Barclay stans.
He was problematic AF and then when he did have confidence, he was always a bit of a dick. And he had the absolute worse combover in starfleet.

super weird - hopefully it’s just an issue of “early days” but if the instances (kbin and/or lemmy) have these weird disconnects, it only prevents people from really getting into communities.

Hey @Kill_joy@kbin.social is this about !AlternativeNation@lemmy.world ? Yeah, it’s super weird. I also found that if I searched for “music” under some Lemmy instances, Alternative Nation comes up for some, but not others. It’s one of the reason why I started posting in those instances and kbin.social to spread the word because Federation seems a bit “early days” still.
I saw similar issues with Federation with Mastodon in very early Lemmy versions, but that’s gotten much better. I hope Kbin & Lemmy get a little more synced up soon though! Want us all as one big happy alternative music community!

Why are you talking as if “mastodon” is some singular entity? There’s like thousands of mastodons running around.
- Comment on 1 year ago:
no, I understand all of that… i’m just wondering what the point of having an instagram-like experience in 2023 when you can post photos and be a photo account on Mastodon. It does the same job, especially when it’s all interconnected via the Fediverse.
In the end, it’s all the same. Twitter, Threads, Mastodon, Instagram, Pixelfed, heck even Facebook: Post content, like/share/comment.
- Comment on 1 year ago:
ironically, with the push for Threads, after the pressure to post Reels in the IG feed, people have been filling Threads with images again lol. It really feels like Threads will be the new IG feed at some point.
Yeah, I get the idea is to force an image, but I guess I’ve been struggling lately with why bother with that limitation? Not sure if I’m describing it well.
- Comment on 1 year ago:
not to be spicy, but… in all honesty, what’s the difference between posting on Pixelfed or on Mastodon. Post image + caption. Same on both, except on Mastodon I can choose not to post an image. I know Pixelfed is image-first, but if your friends and followers are on Mastodon and see/like/reblog my photos there. why would one need/want a Pixelfed account to manage too?
Know what I mean? I’m just struggling to justify yet-another-social media account, especially as I wind down my time on IG.
