i’ve learned the hard way that the aftermarket makers have learned that planned obsolescence makes them more $$$ and going for similarly aged infotainment systems work longer than many of the new stuff

add to that list better gas mileage than most new cars of the same type and i feel the same way bout my '08 ranger. i’ve had to upgrade the infotainment system 3x already because of the planned obsolescence built into them.

and here i was thinking that i was ahead of the curb with my 16 year old car because it gets better gas mileage than most new cars of the same type.
- Comment on How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas 1 week ago:
i like the police warnings and the apps that automatically look for a better route in real time when there’s traffic; which means i’ll be keeping my already 16 year old car until i die or parts run out, i guess

useless infotainment screens that can’t do anything but playing mp3 off a USB stick
i had a similar thought a while ago and it feels like we’re regressing back to the 90’s

If they still don’t care, then so be it.
it’s not that they don’t care; it’s that they don’t understand the impact it has on their life and i’m convinced this is true of everything.

wisconsin’s pro-republican gerrymandering is gone; presidential term elections almost always go more blue and will influence the outcome as it did in the last presidential election; and rfk jr. is around to soak up the rest.
- Comment on As Israel Begins “Final Phase” of Genocide, Biden Slams Pro-Palestine Protests 1 week ago:
read the articles: they were expected to go red for congress and didn’t, that’s the point.

rfk jr and the 2022 election results supports my assertion
- Comment on As Israel Begins “Final Phase” of Genocide, Biden Slams Pro-Palestine Protests 1 week ago:
the article that the i shared with you has a link showing the exit polls.
tldr: it all the states that voted blue where they were expected to go red; including georgia, pennsylvania, nevada, & arizona

I keep harping on this point, if Progressives put in the effort of being a persistent voting bloc, democratic politicians would be a lot more scared of the possibility of being primaried than they are of the possibility that progressives yet again will need to be reminded how the math works on them not voting or voting third party out of spite.
voter suppression and gerrymandering; coupled with moderate’s lack of interest; have guaranteed that there will never be a reliable progressive voting bloc.
latinos, as a whole, have always favored democratic candidates and have been trending towards republicans in recent dates; but are still solidly democratic voters. however, that ratio of democrat to republicans changes drastically when you focus on the specific origin of each latino group.

Like show me on a map where these electoral college votes that Biden has gained are coming from and we can have that conversation. Otherwise, you don’t actually have an argument because the popular vote is irrelevant, and whining about winning the popular vote while losing the electoral college isn’t an argument either.
the argument comes from midterm election results where red safety states went blue when they were bombarded with pro-abortion political adds. this article from npr goes into a deeper dive and also has a link to the exit poll results from those midterm elections: npr.org/…/abortion-democrats-independents-republi…
additionally: presidential elections also usually go blue so a popular vote win is also likely for biden. (this is so well known that some red states like texas hold their gubernatorial elections on off presidential year elections to avoid this phenomenon).
finally: my goal wasn’t to spread optimism; i was trying to share something that helps give me peace with our situation with someone who has expressed the same concern i’ve been having in a thread that the fediverse is trying to now trying to ignore.
- Comment on As Israel Begins “Final Phase” of Genocide, Biden Slams Pro-Palestine Protests 1 week ago:
i’m going to copy/paste this to the only 2 comments this thread is getting:
if you look at the up/down votes the last half dozen biden/gaza threads on the fediverse, you’ll see that there’s nearly 2:1 votes in favor of biden perpetuation genocide.
the fediverse was started by a tankie and is, arguably, the most left leaning social media platform out there and even there, moderates dominate the conversation.
add to that the fact that the democratic party is successfully using abortion to get votes and rfk jr is a much bigger threat to trump than biden; it’s pretty clear that biden will win not matter what.
i’ll leave this quote from mlk jir because it helps me accept this thing that i cannot change:
I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action;” who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a “more convenient season.”
Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

algorithm is a word employed here to help dumb down the concept of the IP that people will want to buy from tiktok; no one means a literal algorithm.
- Comment on ByteDance won't sell TikTok, would rather pull it from the US 3 weeks ago:
they use the same algorithm across all of their companies so selling it would create a strong competitor and the chinese government is likely to block the sale anyways. tiktok revenue is a small slice of bytedance’s income, so it makes sense to swallow the relatively small loss to keep their product intact when it’s crystal clear that it’s far superior to anything else.

I came here during the blackout and deleted all my content on my account. The last day Apollo worked was the last day I used Reddit and I was a Reddittor since 3/10/2011
i became a reddit user on almost the same day and i think i was slower than you to delete my content because i could no longer access my posts older than a few months when i tried; i always wondered if that was intentional and now i have evidence that it was.
- Comment on Reddit embracing all out enshittification 3 weeks ago:
most people are entirely ignorant to what’s happening and they continue
i’m learning as i age that this is the reason enshittification happens anywhere and to anything; i wish i could learn how to accept it.

I too would love to see us do better than the two deeply flawed parties we have now. I wish we had a better voting system that allowed better parties.
i can understand the “better red than dead” voters because they’re getting what they want; so i mostly blame the “vote blue no matter who” voters because they have never gotten what they want and continue to believe that choosing the lesser evil option will somehow make things better even though it never has and never will.

i’ve voted democrat before and will likely again; it’s fascinating how people interpret a message in a way that wasn’t said and that’s not meant as an indictment on you.

unfortunately for me and many others like me, politics is life due to simply existing at the intersection of every major national political topic for the last 35 years.
calling it “politics” divorces it from reality and frames it as purely theoretical even though it’s not true; anyone calling it that is either clueless, privileged, or dog whistling.

vote for a third party if you’re in a safely red or blue state and vote your conscience otherwise.

martin luther king called them moderates and he agreed with both of us.
the problem is that moderates today call leftists they don’t like tankies and other leftists agree; effectively proving king’s point to be true.

like abortion, the democrats did nothing when they had the chance and; in my case; they actively made it worse.
it was hollywood that changed people’s minds on lgbt issues and democrats are simply the political beneficiaries.

One silver line here is “the youths” will learn, in an unusually clear way, that the government effects their lives and can screw up their lives.
this happened to be back in the 90’s & 00’s when biden et al. spearheaded non-dischargeable student loan debt; anti-gay marriage; and a ban on gays in the military and now i’m permanently anti democrat party.
however i don’t think think that this will have the same impact depth because being denied videos does not have the same impact on your life as your government deporting the person you love because you can’t sponsor them for legal residency and driven towards taking on huge student loan debt because the military won’t let you join to obtain the college tuition part of GI bill.
- Comment on Wgen you donate, do you ever think of the person that gets your blood and how high their hospital bill will be? 4 weeks ago:
I don’t know about Canada; but over here you only get those questions if they deem you a high risk group and; depending on your responses; if they think you’re gay and had sex in the last year, you’re not allowed to donate.
It sounds like Canada is only okay w gays donating blood if they’re in a couple, which; I’m willing to bet; is as a depressingly tiny minority of gay men like it is in the United States.
