- Comment on Sam Altman takes nuclear energy company Oklo public to help power his AI ambitions 7 months ago:
And an outspoken apocalypse doomsday prepper. Definitely the kind of ideals we want in unilateral control of nuclear power plants. This guy can’t fuck off sooner and any entity that would back his enterprise is either fucking stupid or blinded by greed.

- Comment on Why can't people make ai's by making a neuron sim and then scaling it up with a supercomputer to the point where it has a humans number of neurons and then raise it like a human? 8 months ago:
Neurons undergo physical change in their interconnectivity. New connections (synapses) are created, strengthened, and lost over time. We don’t have circuits that can do that.
- Comment on Oregon Passes 'Right to Repair' Law With Extra Cojones: Oregon’s “right to repair” bill, which now only needs the governor’s signature before it becomes law, has teeth not found in similar legislation 9 months ago:
This is strangely relevant for me. Been trying to fix my expensive Sonicare for a few weeks now. Finally gave up and bought the cheapest knock-off. Left me with a bad taste…

I run Pop!_Os. Steam with Proton is a gamechanger. Yet to find a game that doesn’t just work with zero configuration.
- Comment on House panel unanimously approves bill that could ban TikTok 9 months ago:
Same. Just make it so Tiktok cannot advertise to American users or monetize American views. Start with that and wait for another non-ccp app to take that market.
- Comment on Sony misses PS5 sales target as console enters ‘latter stage of its life cycle’ 10 months ago:
With their inability to meet demand that first year they made many of us into patient gamers. I bought a PS4 Pro for a couple hundred bucks when that frenzy was going down and will happily play through that massive catalog at 12 bucks a game as long as they still charge almost $500 for a 4-year-old console.

Lower the price.
- Comment on OpenAI wants to raise 5-7 trillion dollars. Yes, Trillion 10 months ago:
Good thing the board folded and allowed this to be full for-profit. Getting people reliant on LLM subscriptions is super important for humanity right now.
Another L for Earth, in general.

If someone is getting rich off of it though, it had better be the creator.

- Comment on I don't know how to deal with what to me is a thin skinned and gossip coworker. 11 months ago:
A firm “no shit talking” policy goes a long way in the workplace. Being kind and polite and letting it all roll off of you is the best way. This sounds like a trap. I wouldn’t take the bait. And let anyone else who wants to dish know that you don’t engage in slandering coworkers.
- Comment on AI shouldn’t make ‘life-or-death’ decisions, says OpenAI’s Sam Altman 11 months ago:
Agreed, but also one doomsday-prepping capitalist shouldn’t be making AI decisions. If only there was some kind of board that would provide safeguards that ensured AI was developed for the benefit of humanity rather than profit…

I struggle with similar symptoms regularly. For me the culprit is boring old anxiety. I know how to relax. I know I am not in danger. Anxious brain gonna do anxious brain stuff. Not saying this is your solution, but it sounds very close to my experience. Just like they say drowning doest look like it does in the movies, anxiety can present in many ways. Therapy is a really good thing. If you feel weird about that, I’d say (forgive the woo woo) just go for a walk every day for a week. Sounds like your brain needs a break. Love to you boss. Times tuff.
- Comment on Scientists discover the first new antibiotics in over 60 years using AI 11 months ago:
Sounds like they built a neural network model and used deep learning to predict what molecules would be effective against drug-resistant bacteria. “AI” as a headline needs to be thrown out the window. We really need to start calling this technology what it is, lest people continue to think this was done by a large language model or a gpt.

- Comment on I feel like are all stuck in a movie where all the rich people live on some kind of floating island or satellite with everything they need to live well, and all of us have zero chance of going there. 1 year ago:

- Comment on Apple users bash new iPhone 15: ‘Innovation died with Steve Jobs’ 1 year ago:
Neither is what Apple is doing and I guess thats my point. How much higher tech to people reasonably need or want in their pocket? Is innovation for its own sake really innovation? They are just remarking existing tech as features without a demand.
- Comment on Apple users bash new iPhone 15: ‘Innovation died with Steve Jobs’ 1 year ago:
I think innovations in phones are going to go the other direction honestly. Shit like eink displays, batteries that last days, fuck it, am/fm… New consumer tech is outpacing the users needs. I see a touch of old standards making a comeback. Hell how old is USB-C?
- Comment on Offshore Wind Resources Could Meet 25% Of US Demand 1 year ago:
This always makes me wonder… the tide has to be one of the biggest sources of free kinetic energy, cycled daily. I can picture a hundred different ways to tap it for free energy. Why aren’t we doing it?
- Comment on How would someone with a terrible singing voice go about learning to sing? 1 year ago:
Singing coach would be the best answer. But outside of that I’d say the first step would be to train your ear. Pitch is more important than the quality if your voice. Plenty of singers get by with unconventional voices because they can sing in tune. And even someone with the beautiful sounding voice will sound terrible if their pitch is bad. Developing a better sense of pitch is possible, even on your own over time. Look up ear training voice exercises.
