- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 7 months ago:
That’s definitely not true. Just yesterday I was eating a salad (with chicken and bacon even) and I had an older coworker pass by and grumpily tell me he didn’t eat rabbit food.

That is easily the dumbest thing I’ve read today.

It’s not the knowledge that I need, it’s mostly the time and desire to set up all that stuff and maintain it and keep it working and constantly needing to track what the latest and greatest version of whatever platform or software that is out there. It’s the same reason I don’t jailbreak my phone or hack my consoles anymore. Sometimes it’s nice to just buy a thing that works out of the box and use it as its intended.

I used to be into that sort of tinkering and custom install/configuring of all sorts of software. I probably still have 2-3 flircs in a drawer somewhere.
These days I just want to be able to buy something, plug it in, and have it work. The idea of installing a plex/jellyfin server and a custom OS on a pi might as well be the same as getting a 4 year degree at this point. I’m sure it works out great for loads of people, but it’s definitely not something I’m interested in.

God, if I could just install SmartTube and Kodi/Stremio on an Apple TV, I’d convert in a heartbeat. Until then, I’ll keep my Shield TV Pro.

People use it like everyone fucking has the innate knowledge of every acronym out there
Or, you know, people use it like everyone fucking has the ability to use google.

He’s extremely well known in the right to repair community. His “day job” is running a repair service for laptops and phones, mainly Apple devices, and he has always been at the forefront of trying to keep Apple in check as much as one person can be. To say he’s a decent guy is an understatement.
- Comment on [VERGE] A history of Apple making us buy new cables 1 year ago:
What an absolutely asinine article. Do they expect Apple to have invented the perfect cable for every product 40 years ago and have been using it since then? The iPhone has changed cables one time in 17 years and now that a government agency is forcing them to change again the Verge is gonna take that as an opportunity to criticize them for changing again. What a joke.

I can’t wait until I am able to block any and all communication from that cesspool of an instance.
I would absolutely hate for that decision to be made for me however.
Thank you for giving me the choice and the satisfaction of being able to personally remove them from my personal feed.

Thanks for this attitude. Let’s me know I’m on the right instance. I want to be able to choose who I block, and I don’t want someone else choosing that for me.

- Comment on The ‘90s Internet: When 20 hours online triggered an email from my ISP’s president 1 year ago:
I remember working for a small local ISP in the late 90s. We didn’t offer unlimited accounts and charged people overages for any hours over the amount they selected with their account. As an employee I didn’t have these restrictions and even put in a second line in my house so I could use the one modem 24/7 and use the 2nd line to double my bandwidth (to a whopping 67Kbps) overnight. I ended up using more time in a month than there was actual hours. One month as a joke the billing manager sent me the bill that I would have received if I was a normal customer and it was in the tens of thousands of dollars. I want to say I got the hint and started using less time and resources, but honestly thinking back on it, I doubt that was the case.
- Comment on The elitist attitudes surrounding Apple products is so unbelievable. 1 year ago:
I have an iPhone, and I don’t think I’m better than anyone else.
Well, except for people who judge other people based on what type of phone they carry. Those people are douchebags.
