Latest read: Atavists: Stories, by Lydia Millet. I had already read and enjoyed her novels Dinosaur, and The Children's Bible, but I think this has more general appeal, and unlike her novels, you don't have to search for any subtext. It's all laid-out right in front of you. Her criticism of Instagram "reality" is particularly effective.

Millet always examines the problems of society and the climate. This book of linked short stories, is clever, smart, and delivers serious insights and takedowns via unserious characters. I laughed raucously through the first two stories, which had the best lines in the whole book, and then coasted comfortably through the rest. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
