Book 2 is 'My Darling Dreadful Thing' by Johanna van Veen.
I'm really enjoying this wonderful gothic. It is more atmospheric and creepy than scary, which is how I like my horror. The plot reminds me a lot of the film 'Crimson Peak' (which I need to rewatch), but more sapphic-leaning. I think the last time I enjoyed a Spooky Reads book this much was last year's 'Black River Orchard' by Chuck Wendig.
I also finished 'Pandora's Star' by Peter F. Hamilton yesterday morning.
Decent reread, not sure if I will continue the series on audio. I really disliked the narrator and his style, so that alone would put me off continuing. This is a good series if you're looking for epic-sized space opera that presents a society in close proximity to ours.

And that means I got to start #SpookyReads2026 book 3 last night.
I started listening to 'King Sorrow' by Joe Hill.
I'm enjoying the start of this so far, especially starting at a prestigious small Maine liberal arts college, for obvious reasons. I'm wondering if the name of a particular historic figure in the fiction is a sly homage to Shirley Jackson, which wouldn't surprise me.
