It is book 1 for #SpookyReads2026. While a lot of places don't quite classify it as horror, I find that it fits the vibe well with the situation as well as the mental state of the character.
I'll admit that the upcoming film is what incentivized me to put this at the top of the list.
Because I was a doofus yesterday, I ended up leaving 'Whalefall' on my desk at work. So last night, I preemptively started book 2 of #SpookyReads2026.
This is 'My Darling Dreadful Thing' by Johanna van Veen.
I'm too early in it to have much of an impression, but I'm liking what I've gotten so far.

Finally, I'm still listening to 'Pandora's Star' by Peter F. Hamilton.
I'm about ready to be done with this (about 4 hours to go). I liked the book when I read it in print, but it's a little tiresome as an audiobook, and I don't particularly like the narrator.
I have Joe Hill's 'King Sorrow' queued up to follow and I'm looking forward to that.
