I’m no dendrologist, but I assume it’s just oxidization, no?
IIRC the change in temperature inhibits the production of chlorophyll (green), which leaves behind other pigments which are yellow, orange, red. I remember the yellow/orange are carotenoids but can’t remember red.
The red pigment is anthocyanin
Yeah but it’s not the temperature, it’s the change in sunlight. Almost all plants (and even animals) are affected by the seasonal change in daylight.
