While most of the attention in WW1 is focused on the European theatres, there was actually a protracted guerilla war in the East African theatre, with the brilliant Imperial German commander Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck leading a mixed force of German and colonial troops to thwart and harass Entente forces in the region until the very end of the war.
