Researchers are developing new technology that could change how drunk and dangerous drivers are identified. Using a single 3D deep learning model, researchers are able to detect three major causes of road accidents simultaneously; blood alcohol concentration, fatigue and expression, such as anger.

Wow. What a terrible idea. There was a woman who was sent to jail in a different state for several months and lost her house, car, and dog because AI misidentified her and cops didn’t give a fuck. Cops should need a warrant for facial recognition at the very least, if it’s allowed at all. Can’t wait for “give me a smile” to be codified into law.

Research says it’s going to cost automotive manufacturers an extra $100-500 to add this on, in pure hardware costs. You can bet that’ll get passed to the costumer, either in raised prices, extra surveillance, or why not double dip.

Locked out of driving your car because of a false positive from an unreliable algorithm. Sounds typical. There’s no shortage of idiot legislators who will accept a bullshit sales pitch, especially when it’s accompanied by a campaign donation.

Why would you use such questionable technology to assess future behavior of subjects when we can simply use phrenology to easily predict criminal behavior?
