Seems like this would affect anyone who doesn’t have a copy of their birth certificate, an enhanced ID or a passport. That seems like a huge number of people.

passports are probably more difficult to get for conservatives, and passports are already a time consuming process as it is. they might not of the USPS offices in commutable areas. and they are usually booked weeks out in advance.

And who else?
Everyone, actually:
Under current laws, many Americans need to present some form of identification to register to vote. The act would require Americans show additional documents that prove their citizenship, such as a passport or a birth certificate.
You just moved? This little errand, updating your voting registration, just got a little more complicated, a little more likely to be a problem. Or a lot more likely, if you lost your birth certificate in the move somehow. Or if you don’t have the kind of settled life where you’ve got a file cabinet for these documents the government expects you to curate on their behalf.

not according to conservative men.

This is by design.
Funny thing is, I have to imagine that it’ll prove far more problematic for Republicans than Democrats, seeing as how poverty is far more widespread in red states than blue, and the impoverished aren’t keeping their ID’s update. No fucking way.

This has been said before, but I am skeptical that this is a realistic risk.
Married women vote R over D by about 15-20 points according to most polls, and I kinda trust Republicans to not shoot themselves in the dick.

Married white women, perhaps? Surely not all married women?
deathbird@mander.xyz 3 weeks ago
All married women, regardless of race.

most of them vote according to thier husbands wishes. even my parents do this, always relegate voting to the man of the house, they arnt cons though.
Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
Most women married to Rs are themselves going to be Rs. It’s just as accurate to say that most husbands are voting according to the wife’s wishes.

I don’t think felons should be able to vote. Or run for a government office.
Fuck!!!

Citizens convicted of felonies should, in fact, still be able to vote. The US has a huge problem with convicting black men of bullshit charges, effectively disenfranchising them.

POC in general too, plus women.

Any woman that supports this is a disgrace to the women that suffered and fought before them to gain that right. If you want to vote the same as your husband or just not vote you don’t need a law enforcing that.

I mean Id say the same about working folks voting for this bull trump but they do.
