    > ban kids from socialising online

I’ll be honest, kids riding bikes across golf courses is not something I’m going to worry about.

Yeah, of all the e-bike incidents for people to be concerned about, this one gets traction? I guess it’s it’s just this one is visually interesting, and for some people is emblematic of the disregard that actually is dangerous in other situations?

This one is gaining traction because it’s where rich people hang out. The cheapest full membership is $7.1k, but you can’t actually get one without paying a $200 non-refundable fee just to go on the waiting list for a place to open up.

They’re just kids having fun. Let them have fun. Better than them being on their phones on social media.

Why can’t they do something prosocial, like helping old people or picking up litter?

How much of that did you do as a kid on school holidays? Don’t spout horseshit.

I think it points to a lack of good pastimes for kids. Maybe we need more sport clubs and other kid friendly activities. Maybe we need an ebike park to get them off the roads.

Hey, what if we gave every teenager a motorbike, and didn’t make them do any kind of driving test? That’s probably a good idea, right?

These are different; they require pedalling and are top speed limited to 25km/hr.

I mean they could just get an actual motor bike at 16 anyway

require pedaling and are top speed limited to 25km/hr.

Those aren’t the ones that are at issue, it’s the (already illegal, no need for new legislation, just enforcement, but gov gotta be seen doing something (performative)) 40+km/hr thumb accelerator jobbies that are the risk, and yes they should be considered motorbikes (or mopeds depending) and are legally already (but usually don’t meet safety standards).

TLDR: Just enforce the laws in place.

That may be the law, but I see e-bikes daily that have been modified to remove those restrictions. In the video in the linked article I can see maybe one person pedal.

They have to pass a written test on the road rules, and yeah, they have to actually be 16. The motorbike also has to have registration plates and they can be penalised or lose their licence.
