While well-intentioned, this is never going to happen. The last thing the Authorities want is civilians being incentivised to take the law into their own hands to win top awards. Ahmed was a very lucky man. It could have ended there and then for him. And he still ended up being shot.

Did you watch the video? He wasn’t a vigilante, just a guy that took the gun of a terrorist preventing people from being killed. I don’t like your comment at all. The guy is clearly a hero who puts himself in front of others.

It might be dumb but its true. why do you think their advice during a home invasion is to just leave asap?
barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 4 days ago
I know. It’s completely idiotic.

These petitions have never achieved anything meaningful.

Is that you would have advised all the people on AA Flight 11, 77 and UA Flight 175 ?
Obviously the people on US Flight 94 would have not taken your advice.

He’ll get an award for heroism, it shouldn’t be Australian of the year.

Discussions of Affirmative Action and “Positive Discrimination” aside, Ahmad did what any Australian should do.
I’m sure that when he stands on the lawn of Parliament House in 6 weeks time, this is what he is going to say.

Nah, instead the guy should never have to work again, if they don’t want to. Need a MP sized lifelong pension. People need real rewards for extraordinary feats that serve the country.
