My previous account was @dumblederp@aussie.zone I left it because Rowling has turned out to be a pretty shitty person and I don’t want the association.
Mostly I’m just here for idle friendly conversation over shared interests.
I can get caught up in my own stubbornness on some topics.

Battlefront 2 multi player has come back to life for the moment.
- Comment on New Zealand approves medicinal use of 'magic mushrooms' 4 days ago:
It’s a drug with therapeutic uses, they’re simply scheduling it for professional use… within an extremely niche community of psychiatrists.
- Comment on Australia lifts plasma donation ban for gay, bisexual men in world first 4 days ago:
I’m glad they went with the civil rights friendly option when softening the donation restrictions. We’ve had a blood drive going for a month or two at the moment, they’re looking for typo-O in particular. If you’re eligible, go be civic, help a stranger.
- Comment on Experts warn mobile sports betting could be gateway to gambling crisis for young men in New York 4 days ago:
Australian xiellenial here, 12 years ago I taught at tafe and I reckon about half the class was on gambling apps. I was shocked as none of my peers use them AFAIK.

- Comment on We went from LEARN TO CODE to NO ONE LEARN TO CODE GET A CONSTRUCTION JOB in about a 3 year span. 1 week ago:
That’s the key point I reckon “if coding is your thing” many people are trying to learn a complex thing they have no interest in.
- Comment on Albanese opens search for ideas to shape second-term agenda 1 week ago:
I’ve got some more:
Wind back private health insurance. It leaches money from the population while providing worse health outcomes. The finance side has lobbyists to encourage the government to lean toward private health and away from public services. Private health at the very top, is just money and bankers, so when the global finance system shifts ever so slightly one way or another, entire branches of our health care services come under fire.
Microtransit. Lean on states to regulate eBikes and eScooters with some reasonable legislation. Improve micortransit freeways around the cities and frankly through the country as well.
Fast trains for transit and freight.
Remove mutual obligations from centrelink payments effectively making it a soft UBI. If people want to work they will or at least will try to. If they don’t want to work they wont. It’s a waste of money to try to punish people who don’t want to work.
Buy back our god dam services. Telco, utilities, government departments (eg, vicroads), public transport.
Manufacturing. How much fucking raw ore do we ship overseas? At least process that here into iron, steel, etc.
That Norway citizens fund thing that Whitlam got shafted over, do that.
Build commie blocks for housing in every major city on top of train stations. 1-3 br apartments, with services on the ground floors.
- Comment on Could this be the death of Australia's nightmarish welfare system? 1 week ago:
There will be no change. Punching down at welfare recipients is so ingrained in Australian politics it’ll never go away. If Albo tries it’ll be the perfect campaign basis for the Libs, your tax money given free to blue haired dole bludgers that want to turn your kids trans.
- Comment on Wealthy Australians are worried we might realise how rigged the system is in their favour 1 week ago:
All her life my Aunt looked like she was on top of her business. Owned multiple houses around the world, travelled regularly, lived in the inner city of a top tier European city. She was found dead at home in her 70s. As the finances were unwound to deal with her estate, she’s flat broke, everything was loans on loans, her sister who rented one of her apartments is set to lose her housing. One of my family members commented “I thought she was good at business”, I replied that she was, she died without ever having to clean up the mess she made, her finances were a disaster and now they’re someone else’s problem.

Where do you place “be kind to each other” on the propaganda scale?
- Comment on [deleted] 2 weeks ago:
Nah dude. You gotta respect your girlfriends wishes on this. Maybe consider getting a place when she’s 18 so she can get away? Will she be moving for university?
If her plan is to keep living with her family and never revealing you, there’s no outcome to that path. But if she is looking to move or study or whatever, you might see a future for the relationship.
Talk to her about the future and where this is going.

If you go back on your son receiving this gift, it’ll be a dick of a dad move. Like some people have mentioned your best bet is probably to have a discussion about wealth and ethics with your son as well as letting him know your concerns. Like some people say, it’s a lot of money for YOU, for these people it’s not.
- Comment on How do you gently tell someone you only want to keep seeing them if it's on a dating level? 2 weeks ago:
You gotta shoot your shot and then be prepared to walk away if they’re not interested. It’s as simple as that. I’ve ended a few friendships with women I’ve developed a crush on as once I had a crush, they weren’t really friendships anymore.
- Comment on My mom tells me I should cut dad off for cheating on her, am I a bad person for not wanting to do so? 2 weeks ago:
You shouldn’t cut him on on behalf of your mother. Maybe I’m projecting here because I’ve got a shitty dad, but I reckon your dad’ll give you a reason of your own to cut him off soon enough. He’s starting a new family with the affair partner and doesn’t have time for you? The new affair partner doesn’t like that you call her the “cheating slag” on your weekends with dad. Really there are plenty of reasons likely to pop up, no need to use your mothers excuse.
- Comment on Can deliberate noise harassment still be a crime if it's done every day from 7:30 AM till 10:30-11:30 PM? 2 weeks ago:
Start going out in the garden at night and making wolf noises. This sounds like an untreated mental health issue. If no one (council, cops, ambulance) is going to respond to the current levels, try to increase them. Consider calling in a welfare check rather than a noise complaint.

- Comment on (Opinion) A shameful death after a supermarket scuffle shines a light on Australia’s unfinished business | Julianne Schultz 3 weeks ago:
Death during restraint is a common and well documented issue. There is training on how to appropriately restrain someone whilst offering minimal risk to all parties involved. A huge part of it is not squashing the person being restrained - positional asphyxia.
