My previous account was @dumblederp@aussie.zone I left it because Rowling has turned out to be a pretty shitty person and I don’t want the association.
Mostly I’m just here for idle friendly conversation over shared interests.
I can get caught up in my own stubbornness on some topics.
- Comment on Why some Australians are spending $35,000 a year on food delivery apps 7 hours ago:
My friend asked how often I got delivery. “More thna 5, less than 10.” I answered. He was surprised to find out that was my total, ever. Probably just over ten these days, less than 15 for sure.
- Comment on Public health advocates say more transparency needed in debate over illicit tobacco as industry links questioned 1 day ago:
It’s not the high, it’s the strength of the addiction. Nicotine is hard to kick. This has been known about since the English landed at what’s become Virginia in the USA. Tobacco has a long history of being used as an addictive trade good. There’s a great book by Iain Gately - La Diva Nicotina: The Story of How Tobacco Seduced the World. Which covers the history of tobacco.
- Comment on Australian health insurance premiums just had their biggest hike in a decade. Is it time to scrap private health cover? 3 days ago:
It’s always been time to scrap private health cover. Disgusting that it was ever introduced.
- Comment on Ban under-16s from riding ebikes and e-scooters then require a driver’s licence, Queensland inquiry to recommend 3 days ago:
They’re great devices. I’m for any legislation that allows the legal public use of them. Ridiculous that I can be trusted with a 1000+ cc motorbike but not a 3kw e-moto.
- Comment on Watch: Gout Gout stuns with a record-equalling time in the 100 metres 6 days ago:
GGWP.
- Comment on NSW To Impose Minimum Age For E-Bikes Following Review 1 week ago:
e-bikes and e-motos are great and we need legislation to allow their use.
- Comment on ‘The whole family is destroyed’: Australia’s inheritance disputes aren’t just increasing – they’re becoming messier 1 week ago:
I stopped talking to my father because he didn’t pass on a portion of the inheritance like my grandparents intended. He’s a piece of shit in many ways that I was accustomed to but that broke the relationship for me.
- Comment on With their first female leader gone, can the Liberals shake their 'women problem'? 1 week ago:
It sounds like they have shaken their woman problem. /s
- Comment on Communities for each state and territory 1 week ago:
I don’t think we’re a big enough community to support it. The frugal and gardening communities championed by @melbabouttown barely see any action. I think most of it can be put into this community until it needs some division.
- Comment on Health star rating to become mandatory on all packaged food in Australia 1 week ago:
Having an “entire packet” column would be useful for when someone eats the whole tub of ice cream or packet of biscuits. Eg, last time I checked a large Big M counted as two serves.
- Comment on Bunnings wins fight to use AI facial recognition tech to combat store crime, opening door for other retailers 2 weeks ago:
Sunnies, a hat and pay cash.
- Comment on It appears you no longer have the right to protest | First Dog on the Moon 2 weeks ago:
People have important appointments at 5pm on Thursday evening?
Traffic accidents and train replacements also cause people to miss things.
- Comment on Bunnings wins fight to use AI facial recognition tech to combat store crime, opening door for other retailers 2 weeks ago:
Masks are going to be so in fashion for this neo dystopia we’re building.
- Comment on New video sheds light on beginning of altercation between police officers and a Town Hall protester 2 weeks ago:
Doesn’t seem to add any more context at all. Cops still look like a bunch of cunts keen to throw punches. I doubt that guys shirt survived such treatment either, shirts are fragile.
- Comment on 'It was agony': Grandparents injured in Sydney anti-Herzog protest 2 weeks ago:
Very disturbing that the police can tick a few boxes and have liability waived. They should always be liable for their actions with the powers they’re given.
- Comment on Australian sprint star Gout Gout will not race at 2026 Commonwealth Games [because he's focusing on the world under-20 championships in August] 2 weeks ago:
But the initials of GG are great for a champion athlete.
- Comment on Australia in danger of becoming an ‘artless country’ as enrolments in creative courses collapse 2 weeks ago:
I get that it’s not all on the store but I can but a dozen eggs and a loaf of bread for $10, making 6-12 breakfasts. Sure they’re not as fancy as a cafe but it’s $10+minimal effort vs $150.
- Comment on Australia in danger of becoming an ‘artless country’ as enrolments in creative courses collapse 2 weeks ago:
It’s too expensive to be an artist in this country. Used to be able to work a few shifts somewhere to earn enough for food, rent, art and a drink from time to time. Now a full time job barely pays enough to rent a shoebox.
- Comment on ‘Take them away, crush them’: Australia faces an ebike surge that some say poses a health emergency 3 weeks ago:
We need to invest in bike infrastructure.
- Comment on NSW To Abolish 'Good Character' References From Sentencing Hearings 3 weeks ago:
That’ll likely still work unfortunately. My well connected grandfather kept my piece of shit dad out of so much trouble.
- Comment on Company handling Australia’s immigration detention playing key role in Trump’s ICE migrant crackdown 4 weeks ago:
Season five of Orange is the new Black?
- Comment on Science teachers from Queensland Open Brethren schools told to teach students about vegetarian dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark 4 weeks ago:
Theory - This is were Aussie-ICE are going to be recruited from if Australia turns fascist.
- Comment on Australia’s strongest gun reform since the Port Arthur massacre has become law. Here’s what you need to know 5 weeks ago:
Cant bait rodents eating chicken feed as the chooks’ll eat the bait too.
High powered air rifles have very cheap ammo.
- Comment on Australia’s strongest gun reform since the Port Arthur massacre has become law. Here’s what you need to know 5 weeks ago:
They’re supposed to be tools, dangerous tools. That’s a bit like saying you’re allowed a 12mm spanner, one screwdriver and one pair of pliers for your tool kit. Deer hunting VS rabbit vd rodent, you don’t want to be firing dollar coins at rats when a high powered air rifle will do the trick. That same air rifle is useless for the deer.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 5 weeks ago:
I’ll pass them onto pingers for the moment. Need to note down that actual addresses. There’s at least half a dozen places near me that’ve been vacant for more than a year.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 5 weeks ago:
Vacancy tax.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 5 weeks ago:
IDK but probably. God dam richers.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 5 weeks ago:
I was hoping for more of an official ATO link.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 5 weeks ago:
Anyone know of somewhere to report vacant houses? I walk past a bunch that’ve been vacant for years now.
- Comment on Australia Post rival shuts operations without warning 1 month ago:
Sent and received dozens of things with sendle without issue. Cheap and slow delivery was my experience.
