It’s like Brexit all over again with the same antagonist stirring trouble.
I thought I was growing up in a racially tolerant Britain. I now realise I was wrong

If the ultra-rich fund the racists saying immigrants are causing all the problems, they might ensure that enough people don’t realise the existence of the ultra-rich themselves is what’s causing all of the problems.

For a period in the 2000s government made racism unacceptable and the racists went into hiding. It didn’t change views it just hid them, now they are promoting bigotry in many forms and those views are coming out. At no point was the people of the UK tolerant, there is about the same number of racists its just whether politicians have emboldened those views or not.

I feel that those who were “mildly” racist have been pushed further in that direction in the last few decades. Everything has become more polarised.

It’s social media. Social media has emboldened the racists to stop hiding, creating their own safe echo chambers where they can make their racist statements without much blowback. That in turn has emboldened politicians to cater to the growing number of people who happily comment ‘usual suspects’ on crime news posts or some other crap about asylum seekers getting 5 star hotels with bed and breakfast before getting their own 4 bed detached house built for them.
The two biggest issues we have in modern society is poor education (lack of critical thinking skills) and a pathetically regulated social media. Social media should’ve been tightly regulated ten years ago, now we have people in their 20s with warped views of the world because they grew up with social media.
It’ll lead us to a Reform win and the UK’s further capitulation to American interests. Fun times.

I think it’s still progress, if something forces the racists into hiding, but it should stay that way. If they come creeping out of their holes again, it sucks big time.
