Not really sure how to feel about this.

I despise these guys and I find the slow slide towards fascism sickening honestly.

However, deporting residents for crimes kinda sucks. Like if someone has lived in Australia their entire adult lives, it seems kind of inhumane to deport them to another country just because we can.

Granted I think inciting hatred is a far more serious crime than the usual weed dealing.

If he had only been here for 5 or 8 years or something then I would certainly feel like he should be deported. However, when he’s been here his whole life it feels like a convenience rather than justice.

Additionally, is there really anything to be gained by getting rid of this one guy? Some other asshole will emerge to take up his role.

Agreed. It’s lazy and doesn’t address the actual problem. He’s getting followers - and it’s not like he’s going to their houses and recruiting them in person. They’ll follow him online from New Zealand as readily as they follow him in Australia.

He’s a home-grown matter now, we grew him, we should be dealing with him. Besides, I like New Zealand. I see no need to inflict him on them.

Yeah, he’s just one member of the nsn in the end. I think making him NZs problem doesn’t do much honestly. He needs to face actual consequences, he’s done so much shit and keeps getting a slap on the wrist, when it’s well known that he intends to keep doing awful shit, especially assaulting people…

I’m personally not taking the petition seriously, I assumed it’s more of a statement of their hypocrisy. Like you said, it’s not appropriate and not a substitute for justice. Lock them up in isolation for a serious stretch of time along with the other violent domestic terrorism participants.

And one thing you touched on, I’ll note that there is an unfortunate tendency (at least online) of people proclaiming conditional rights, like the US Democrat voters saying they hope Republican-voting immigrants get deported, or nominally progressive people misgendering others over political disagreements because ‘they deserve it’ or because it’s an easy attack. Really shows their hand when their convictions are conditional. Either you believe in a right or you don’t, be honest about it.

As for NZ… they’ve already had too many of our nazi scum over there.

Additionally, is there really anything to be gained by getting rid of this one guy? Some other asshole will emerge to take up his role.

On one hand, you’re correct that removing a leader doesn’t solve the rest of the problem. “If you could go back in time and kill Hitler”, the Nazi Party still would have certainly gained major ground.

On the other hand, I recall one of the times Sewer went to prison, there was a power struggle and drama. So it probably won’t hurt.

Why should New Zealnd be punished? Deport him to the bottom of the ocean instead.

The US is apparently trying to send people to South Sudan. I don’t mean to suggest that Australia should take inspiration from them, but that seems like a good place to send a racist asshat.

It would be funny but then the poor folks of Sudan have to suffer this fool so I still think the ocean is the best choice.

I don’t think it would do much. He’d just continue agitating and assaulting people there.

Perhaps it would be more useful to ban him from the platforms he’s using (or from using the internet) and from attending “public gatherings” (or house arrest).

Or you know. Actual jail. Like he should be in.

Why not send him to Naru?
