What is this obsession with HECS debt. We’re not America, our student debt system is extremely reasonable and of basically no concern. The only reason it ever causes problems is because our housing market is an absolute nightmare but that’s true for everyone HECS debt or not.

High inflation and then a over saturation degrees(no longer a differentiator), people who’ve been told go to uni and you’ll get a better job are left with debt and no better job. In a lot of cases where they don’t use their degrees.

Then it goes up each year with inflation… Even if you’re not paying it (since you don’t meet the threshold)

Definitely more thought is needed before just ‘going to uni’. Eg should you get a trade or study on the job.

Do you think 54 is young? 'Cos HECS started in '89

I’m just bitter HECS was ever introduced. I think those who got all their schooling for free, should get absolutely no pensions in retirement etc. you fuck us, we fuck you.
