Great idea to have planted something then, to mark the time. It’s looking great!
I’ve never seen such a small Suillus, I’m used to them being pretty sizeable.
Yeah, was surprised as well, but it looks correct and they grow locally a lot. I’ve seen fruiting body growing smaller than normal in my constrained growing experiments (but also larger than normal sometimes).
So tiny, so cute ❤️

I wonder if there’s some “mycorrhiza tek” where you put a bonsai in a monotub 😄

They actually sell seedlings inoculated with mycorrhiza I think. My wife speculates, that too vigorous mushroom as they get in monotubs will totally turn from symbiotic to predatory, as is customary in this world.

Yeah you can use the benefits of mycorrhiza for keeping the tree healthy but what I meant is using it as a way to grow mushrooms at home that you couldn’t otherwise. Sacrificing a bonsai each time probably wouldn’t be quite worth the effort though 😅 Maybe there’s a way to keep a detached root alive long enough for the mycelium to prey on it and fruit some shrooms. Sounds like a fun project at least.
