  Many of these piracy analogies are kinda weird. IMO the best analogy to pirating a movie is watching a football match from behind the fence. The stadium company isn’t getting your ticket money, but you’re not even the kind of person who would pay for that ticket anyway, so did anyone really lose anything? When watching the match from outside the fence, you’re not taking any seats, or bothering the paying customers. Where’s the harm in that?

    I think it’s a false assumption that these people wouldn’t be paying anyway. That’s just a narrative spread as a fact. It’s undeniable that film/game studios are losing money due to piracy. Some number of the people who pirate would be paying for it if piracy wasn’t an option.

  The technicality argument always rubbed me the wrong way. Like the guys who are into jailbait and say they aren’t pedophiles because pedophilia is for under ten year olds and they want to fuck teenagers. Brother you still want to fuck underage folks.

  Same generally with piracy. Saying it’s not theft because there’s no physical deprivation of goods just sounds deluded. It’s still taking stuff without paying for it. Who are you trying to fool? Are you hoping someone is gonna read that nonsense and say, “Oh shit hes right guess we gotta get rid of copyright law now”? And would you want them to in the day and age of AI stealing everything?

  I’m not even really trying to scold folks who pirate, I do it too, I just don’t bother to grandstand about it. BFD I’m pirating 30 year old video games. Y’all think if I bought a 200 dollar used one on Ebay the original studio sees a dime of it? C’mon now.

    in many places theft is defined as depriving the rightful owner of an object
    so no, piracy isn’t theft, it’s piracy, that’s why they made a new crime for it

  Piracy isn’t piracy. Piracy is copyright infringement. Real piracy involves boats.

  So if you want to be a proper pirate, run your BitTorrent client on a boat.

  No worries. In new vehicles, the paperwork says you have a license to use the Software that drives the car rather than ownership.

  You do own the physical parts though for now.
