I’m personally not in love with simply doing more TOS. Feels like a show, once done, should stand for itself. Plus, I’m okay with Paul Wesley as younger Kirk, but he wasn’t a great fit when he debuted as mature Kirk.

I’d be more excited about something running parallel. Number One as the captain of her own ship (with the occasional 1701 team up, of course) would be more appealing to me.

I think Goldsman’s actual statement is pretty vague - he could easily mean a spinoff with the non-TOS cast. Just redress the sets and you’re off to the races.

He could also mean a movie, or…some third thing.

And in any case, he’s moving on with his career.

It’s cool that they’re excited about possibilities, but I remain very skeptical that there’s any actual traction there.

Hey—I got an idea for that third thing—how about we start a new spin-off from SNW, with another crew and a different ship, and then maybe at the end of say, season 2, they jump like 900 years into the future, which would give the producers a sort of clean slate but with a solid foundation, and then, start other spin off from tha… oh wait

I want a Pike and Sisko spinoff after they are both removed from the timeline. Now that would have been an interesting way to start section 31.

TAS is the 4th season of TOS - with some of the scripts adapted from the prep for a live-action TOS season 4 that never happened. (Yes, TAS IS canon!)

Now, we know that Arex and M’Ress are difficult to bring to live action, but who’s to say that their rotations on Enterprise aren’t done, and Chekov isn’t back, as year 5 begins?

I always figured TAS was the final two years of the five-year mission…

At 22 episodes total, and only 6 in TAS second season, it could go either way.

I am willing to concede so that those who don’t love TAS much as I do can get their proper closure to the 5 year mission.

And then there’s part of me that very much wants Vanguard to be the new, darker station-based serialized ensemble show to fill the DS9 niche we haven’t quite had in this era.

The Animated Series that ran in the mid 70s.

It had the same cast as TOS. Roddenberry was the showrunner again (after leaving before season 3 of TOS) and DC Fontana was the Supervising Editor in charge of the scripts.

Usually it stands for “the animated series.”
