Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.
Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

Desktop reader talk
I took the time to set up and try out Suwayomi since last week. As expected, I don’t really like having to use a browser to use it but it’s alright otherwise. It does have a problem with detecting that my system is using dark theme and ends up launching with bright colours every time but that’s not a huge problem. Komikku is working fine as well. This one’s problem has to do with the way it searches through source sites - you can’t cancel a call for sites it’s still waiting for response from, even if you found what you were looking for. So if for example I add a new series to library and want to look for something new while the previous search didn’t finish (calls to some sites can get stuck without response) I have to restart the app to do so.
This also isn’t a huge issue (it’s relevant mainly when importing my library during an initial setup) but it’s a stupid nonetheless. —

The One Within the Villainess
I binged through the series last week. Despite having the same potential issue as May I Ask for One Last Thing?, i.e. completely overpowered MC, this one ended up having more going on for it in the end. Some examples that differentiate both titles:
Funnily enough, anime adaptation was announced a few days after I finished the series - perfect timing.
Side Characters Deserve Love Too
I did not expect MC to be a simp, let alone such a huge one. Her obsession ranges from hilarious to tiring, with the former being the more common occurrence thankfully. While the series can be a bit one note at times it’s still pretty fun to binge, if only to have something to do.
Late season 1/season 2 thoughts
While Joe was always kind of a Mary Sue character she still had to work within limitations early on, however small they were. When the war arc started I thought it had a lot of potential for some interesting story beats. That lasted up until the middle of the first battle chapter when our MC with no combat experience and very limited training quickly became the god of death and any tension just evaporated immediately. Like… it’s not like I wanted the series to suddenly change genres but man, can’t you keep the suspense for at least a moment? At least the final arc delivered pretty nicely. It had suspense, stakes, drama - pretty much everything I was missing from the rest of the story. It also got a bit darker compared to everything before it without go overboard.
In the end I did end up enjoying it quite a bit. I do have to say though: Benji > Kyle. I know he had no chance but I still prefer the side character to the side character. Especially considering how Kyle turned out to be in the end (not terrible, just not how I enjoyed him).
I Shall Master This Family
Woman gets thrown out of a noble family after everyone who had some respect or ties to her is gone, then she dies and is resurrected as her 7 year old self. Objective: take over the family.
Really solid so far, both in humour and writing in general. I appreciate that MC acts like a kid while working on her long term plans to improve her (and her dad’s) standing in the family. While the presentation is light and fun for the most part, story doesn’t shy from more serious topics like political manoeuvring, child abuse or bullying.
It’s my next binge target for sure.

Firentia, one of my most moved protagonists. You’ll enjoy this one.

Her drive and care for other characters is truly moving, autocorrect knows what’s up!
