Since my vita can’t emulate ds games properly and I want to get my hands on different handhelds, I want to buy me a second hand model. Would you recommend the form factor of 2ds for bigger hands or are 2ds and 3ds clamshells are no sweat?
XL without a doubt.
3DS XL or 2DS XL. The basic 2DS is for toddlers.

Well I ain’t much of a grown up inside so I wouldn’t bat an eye.
I mean like it’s actually designed with toddlers in min regarding size, build and such. It’s just not very pleasant.
Get a new 2ds xl. The more powerful processor makes it compatible with all games and gives better emulation performance. Moreover, the clamshell design keep the screens protected.
If you want to play DS games, buy a DSi. It’s not the most comfortable thing in the world (a DSi XL would probably be better), but it’s way cheaper. If you do care about playing 3DS games though, I would actually recommend the New 3DS or New 3DS XL, which have features lacked by everything other than the New 2DS XL while also having a slightly better design.
You can actually still play DS games with proper scaling on 3DS-like systems by holding start and select while the game is booting up. Helps a lot, as I don’t like the upscaling at all.
If you actually want to play DS games then you should get an actual DS and not a 3DS/2DS.
The 3/2DS screens are a higher resolution so ds games are stretched to fill them, making them look blurry. You can hold down a button combination to stop that from happening but then the image will be small.
A DSi LL is a fantastic DS experience and it’s hackable so you can just load up games of an sd card
For what it’s worth the New 2DS XL is my favorite variant of all the DS models.
Mine as well. Same internals as new 3ds, more rugged and rounded design and no cluttery layout. Plus being the newest model means it being less worn out potentially especially when you buy it second hand
Thanks a lot mates. I will probably get a 2ds since there aren’t a lot of listings where I am rn and electronics are generally expensive. Appreciate the massive feedback

I’d definitely recommend the clamshell xl 2ds or 3ds. Also if you can find it the new 3ds/2ds has a slightly more powerful processor and a second thumbstick which can be nice for emulation

Yea the cstick. Is it that good tho? Idk if it’s meant to be a pointer or a right analog stick, never used such a thing.

If you consider the second stick that important, you can always add it to an old 3Ds XL…
I bought the “Circle Pad Pro” for my old 3DS XL.
