  Since everything is software based, virtually all of it is proprietary, and requires updates; I’m now bearish on any technology that relies on companies continuing to operate and update their software.

  Everything is so shitty that even miraculous tech like this could break down when a company goes under or decides to stop making software updates on a whim. I don’t think I’ve read a single dystopian scifi book that imagined corporate control of every minor/major innovation with paywalls and subscriptions that ultimately lead to the enshittification of every facet of our lives. It feels so much worse than we could have imagined.

    I mean, the plot of Ghost in the Shell sounds pretty close from what I recall: Poor people can only afford cheap bionics, but cannot repair or replace them once support ends.

  Okay, the part where they show her detaching her bionic hand from her bionic arm and then communicating it with it wirelessly to do things some distance away is pretty neat. I mean, there has been telerobotics for stuff like remote surgery, but she’s just naturally using it.

  Clickbait-ish title, the prothesis is not “mind controlled” but uses wireless electrodes that record muscle contraction. Cool tech, though.

    Technically, her mind controls the muscles that control the hand. But yes, her mind doesn’t control the hand directly.

    It is pretty cool to see the hand work away from the limb.
