TikTok was never approved for sale. China would never give that kind of soft power up.

I dunno, Trump showed the world you can completely give up decades of hard won soft power in only two months, maybe China will think it’s cool?

ByteDance will never sell the TikTok algo. They’ll handover a tamed version, but never the cutting edge.

The point is that the US, and US companies, think they can bully their way to preminence and they can’t.

Only for the us in this case. The us isn’t even the money maker for tiktok.

To fill TikTok with enough slop to make its users go elsewhere?

Even ignoring geopolitics, I don’t think Tencent is going to accept shares in an unprofitable start up in an unproven and possibly permanently unprofitable industry in exchange for one of the most valuable tech properties on Earth.
