  Not a medical professional, but I thought surgery is supposed to be the last resort. Perhaps the doctor determined that the symptoms are that severe.

  Also, I kinda ignored it previously in this series because the situations tend to be emergencies, but shouldn’t he inform the patients about the risk of surgery before getting their consent?

  Lastly, I thought Carpal Tunnel is a programmer’s thing, so I was quite surprised to learn that it is indeed a common affliction for blacksmiths (or any occupation that uses their hands a lot). As usual, this author did their homework.

    I am a couple chapters behind, but I struggled with carpal tunnel while I was in grad school due to spending 40+ hours a week constantly pipetting in the lab (biophysics). They make some ergonomic and electronic pipette options these days, so it isn’t as bad a problem. Also, as I have progressed in my career I spend dramatically less time in the lab compared to what I used to do.
