THE DISSIDENTS, by Derf Backderf
This is the author of other graphic nonfiction: MY FRIEND DAHMER, and KENT STATE: Four Dead in Ohio. (Also one on punk rock I haven't gotten to.)
He knocks it out of the park with this one: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Just astonishing work. Engaging and informative. I read it all in one sitting. I could not stop reading it. Backderf uses a fictional character to tell a true story about the real political cartoonists active during the period of Woodrow Wilson's administration.
I rarely do this; I usually tailor rec's to specific audiences. But, I'm actually going to do a blanket recommendation of this book to everyone, certainly within the U.S. but also outside of my country as well. U.S. history has a way of affecting everyone else, for better or worse, sometimes at the same time.
@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Oh great. I love his stuff so I'll put this on a TBR pile. Thanks for the rec.
@jessamyn @bookstodon I really hope libraries know how good this is. Mine had it prominently displayed.
I also hope you get a lot out of it. 😃
