Took a break from the 1245 page book, to read this little ol' 65 pager.
"Mestra," by Madeline Miller, is a short story recently published as a standalone.
This fable regards the twin evils of greed and arrogance. I had never heard the story before and was glad that I knew nothing going in. 4 ⭐️
wendigo@metalhead.club 5 hours ago @kimlockhartga @bookstodon Those 800+ pagers are a real challenge for me these days, which is why I have yet to tackle 'Don Quixote' or 'War and Peace'...
kimlockhartga@beige.party 4 hours ago It's a true time commitment, and you can lose flow if you have to stop and start a lot.
I've read a few books that didn't feel nearly as long as they were:
11/22/63, Stephen King
1Q84, Haruki Murakami
2666, Roberto Bolaño
Wayward, Chuck Wendig
But, most? You can definitely feel it.

The genre books where it's a 7 book series of 800 page volumes... I don't have time or patience for that level of filler. I'd really like more 200 page novels that I could knock out in a day or two and get a complete story without a wasted word.

Are you reading The Rouse? I'm 500 pages in and can't believe I'm not even halfway there.
@joyce @bookstodon Ah, another traveler on The Rouse train! Yeah, I'm about 800 pages in, and I have no idea what's going to happen next.
