Might be actual shingle siding that’s been painted. Hard to tell from the photo. Maybe take one off and take it to a building supplier and ask them what they think it is.

It totally could be shake with thick paint from years of coats. I’d have to see it and probably take some of it off to know for sure.

I think it’s press board. Like old fashioned MDF, or high tech insulbrick. I seem to remember ripping it off houses before.

Careful if it’s fiber cement. Sometimes it contains asbestos.

I thought the same thing. The edges are too crisp for Masonite
