I didn’t see how that prevents disappearing. If they want you gone they just won’t take a mugshot.

mipadaitu@lemmy.world 7 months agoBecause it means there’s a public record of people detained by police, makes it harder to disappear people.
There’s a serious consequence of people assuming arrested=guilty, and regardless of the result, your life can be ruined. But there’s still a way to keep the public informed about who the cops locked up.

This is why mugshots or other pictures of people not yet convicted should not be published
