tables@kbin.social 8 months agoI'd say yes, not necessarily because of the story ties, but because there's progression in the gameplay itself. So playing the second one after the first one will feel like an upgrade in gameplay. Whereas if you decide to play this one right now and at the end you're left wanting for more, going back to the first one might feel like a slight downgrade (even though I love it as well).

@ChihuahuaOfDoom@lemmy.world I completely agree with this take. You don’t need to get the secret ending or unlock everything or anything like that, but the sequel builds on mechanics from the first one. You can do more stuff in the second game, and I’d also say that it’s a bit more difficult too.
IMO I prefer the basic ending to the true ending of Hotline Miami 1.

It feels like it’s targeted at the player instead of the character, and I eat up those meta storylines.
