Could someone that understands chess explain the answer to rule 16? I got it by just plugging in all possible moves until it passed but it seems like a dumb move that gets your queen captured for no real benefit.

The answer is apparently Qg6+ but I don’t see how this is any better than Qh5+ for example which would (presumably) be followed by g6 then Qxg6+ putting you in the same position but with on less pawn for black. What am I missing?

It’s because it’s a shorter mate so the engine considers it a better move.
Qh5+ g6, Bxg6 hxg6, Qxg6#
