I read a while back they started charging a monthly subscription for ad-free experience. That’s likely the case.

Tells users? Or tells ad buyers? Facebook and Instagram are free for users. There’s no fee.

I haven’t used Facebook or Instagram since they promoted me to pay €9 pr account pr platform I think they offered me some discount so I could manage for €27 each month.
I am OK with them offering a paid version. But they also removed untargeted ads in the process. They used to allow showing ads thart weren’t targeted.
Also the adfree version still tracks you and will show targeted content even from commercial accounts. So the price is simply a scare tactic

For Facebook, you’re the product. As buyers are their customers.

The line between user and advertiser is getting blurrier. They’re rolling out a feature where users can pay to “boost” their posts.

Rolling out? Maybe I’m missing something but you could pay to boost your posts on Facebook for many years now…

Ah, I guess I misread the article. So the only new part is the Apple tax?

Good lord. What a waste of money! 😆
