But I do agree with you the adaptation is a bit too over-detailed; the “camera rainbows” are completely unnecessary, I’m almost sure the city was modelled in 3D, that guy Elymas protected from the raana behaving a bit too hammy… they also made Elymas look less like a tank, and more like a scrawny boy (in comparison with the manga).

It used to be more common to keep the source style. My guess is that it’s 25% what’s easiest to draw and 75% branding (that is, whether non-Japanese exec-suite types can tell that it’s anime).
