I genuinely didn’t get the meme at the beginning because I loved the song. I was like, “what’s the joke?” And would listen to the whole song.
I think they’re making fun of Rick Astley and just perhaps how dated this once popular song is. But jokes on them! I’m into that shit!

Even if that was the original intention, it turned out to be a great benefit to him personally, so if that’s what it was supposed to be, then I guess the jokes on them 😀
