I like rice but kind of like how I like bread. It’s carbs that you put with other stuff give it more substance. On its own it can be OK (since its carbs) but pretty bland.

Someone I know misheard “Tenth Avenue Freestyle” as “Tell the devil you freestyle” and honestly that’s a much more interesting song.

- Comment on Voyager 1 is fully back online months after it stopped making sense. 5 months ago:
It’s insane what these people do. They’re rewriting code from the 60s to use even less memory, have to test it in production without physical access, and it takes two days to see if anything changes. It’s an insane piece of engineering and it’s incredible that it’s still sending useful data.

Tbf I think the way its federation works is inherently incompatible.
I could be entirely wrong though
- Comment on Your 4G phone could be impacted by 3G shutdowns this year. Here's what to know 8 months ago:
Yeah it was a similar deal. At&t has a whitelist of phones they support with VoLTE, and if you’re not on it you’re screwed.
- Comment on Your 4G phone could be impacted by 3G shutdowns this year. Here's what to know 8 months ago:
There’s this cool thing at&t did where even if you have volte and 4g, your phone still won’t work if it isn’t on their specific whitelist.
Had a very fun time after I missed a phone interview because of that.

- Comment on Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has replaced the Hide Desktop icon with Copilot. 9 months ago:
Monitors at different refresh rates is a downside of x11, which Mint uses for all its desktop environments. Fortunately, they’re working on moving to Wayland for the Cinnamon edition, which has better support for that. There’s an experimental version you can use now, and they plan to be done in 2026.
I’d test things first ofc, maybe with your laptop plugged into one of the monitors.

I mean, for most distros you should be about to install and use the OS without touching the terminal. Yeah, you may want to use it for some things (idk what you were trying to do) but it’s kind of the same thing in Windows with registry edits and such. It’s a tool and if you don’t know how to use it, you’re probably gonna get lost.
Also how is it easier to go to a webpage to download an installer instead of using a store? Even microsoft is trying to move in that direction.
I don’t want to say your experience is invalid because I definitely think Linux can improve in terms of user experience. But it’s not very helpful to just complain about stuff vaguely.

- Comment on Why doesn't valve release testing room packs? 10 months ago:
Plenty of the mods (portal stories Mel, portal reloaded) have plenty of playtesting. Valve already did most of the work with the base game, making sure the mechanics all function properly. But I think it’s just as feasible to design a good puzzle with 5 playtesters as it is with 100.
- Comment on Why doesn't valve release testing room packs? 10 months ago:
Why would they? What could they offer that the hundreds of community test chambers and mods don’t?

- Comment on What's up with Epic Games? 10 months ago:
My main issue is that Tim Sweeny has repeatedly shown that he really doesn’t know that he’s taking about when it comes to Linux and how it works. Like if you’re gonna diss something at least have valid reasons. Windows is a better gaming platform right now, but that’s only because companies like epic refuse to pay any service to it. Hopefully that changes soon.
- Comment on The new Mammoth app is a much simpler take on Mastodon | The Verge 11 months ago:
Some people want some sort of suggestion system. I figure as long as it’s an opt-in choice, why not? Gives people what they want and makes the ecosystem more enticing. And at least it’s an algorithm that’s transparent rather than one controlled by a large corporation.

Ensign Ro and old Jake are both in Half-Life 2, those voices are ingrained in my memory so I instantly recognized them when i watched the show.

The single line “I fell asleep reading a particularly erotic chapter in my grandmother’s journal” is worthy of it honestly. I don’t think any other sequence of 12 words can evoke anything close to the emotional rollercoaster I felt when that sentence was spoken.

People already abbreviate to the last two digits when appropriate, so it’s not hard to imagine people doing the same for bigger numbers.
For keeping track of stuff electronically, we’re pretty much set too. 64 bit unix time will take us well over 100 billion years.
- Comment on What are some alternative to soulless videogame franchises? 1 year ago:
Thumper is the best rhythm game I’ve ever played, and it was made by two ex-harmonix employees who were disappointed by the direction of rock band and similar titles. It throws away all the wish fulfillment and commercial stuff and the result is amazing.
