If you work in mental health, then you know it’s exceptionally EASY to make a person in crisis even worse off than before they called you.

I am glad that YOU care about your clients, but I have a very hard time imagining that they do: a for-profit that is running a monetary scam like this one doesn’t give two shits about the people that call, and probably doesn’t even have sufficient or even trained staff, because scammers only care about one thing, and it’s NOT your client.

They weren’t just a subscription service, they were also manipulating reviews (using deceit to lure people in and then making it impossible to cancel their service). They were also trying to ensure that any time someone did manage to cancel, they got charged for another month by screwing with the billing cycles (“exploited delay in cancellation processing to issue additional charges”).

Just what someone in crisis needs, right? Find a different hero to cheer, like the guy in the mirror who cares about his clients: these people ain’t it.

TL;DR: Accept the possibility (and probability, IMO) that this closure may be saving lives by keeping people off the phone and out of subscription-model MH assistance with promises of help that are likely NOT forthcoming.
