Comment on What is the most efficient method to set up a home server?
fahad@lemmy.world 6 months agoAfter fighting my old PC the whole day. 😂 I have concluded that not to go with pc. I’m looking at NAS Synology and FreedomBox Pioneer Edition, etc.

You can still use one of these with the NAS as storage. A Synology doesn’t have a lot of horsepower to run programs directly on their hardware so if you plan on doing something like a media server you might encounter some issues. An optiplex running Proxmox will let you run a bunch of different containers or VMs separately

You are correct. After speaking to a friend, I have decided to build a new NAS. For less than £200, I can quickly build a decent PC.
