Punching up, punching down theory, that’s the difference between mockery and joking. One is an offense the other is just comedy. Not all comedy is made equal. There’s also making fun of a situation and making fun of a person. The quality of a good comedian is having a good feel for these nuances and when a joke is one or the other.

interceder270@lemmy.world 11 months agoI don’t think Dave Chappelle is a piece of shit. I think a lot of criticism towards him is exactly what his recent gripes about the alphabet people are about. He made fun of everyone and nobody cared, but when he makes fun of the LGBT then all of a sudden people like you are say “he’s always been a bad guy.”
