I was formatting and resizing usb drives for work. I had already started drinking and was only half pay attention to what I was doing since I wanted to go back to hanging out with my friends. I failed to realize I left the drive plugged in with my other USB’s and formatted them all during my conversation/drinking session. It was only in the morning did I realize what I did.
Comment on Google Drive misplaces months' worth of customer files
iAmTheTot@kbin.social 11 months ago... Why were you doing anything remotely like formatting a drive while drunk?

If you just did a format and didn’t overwrite the whole disk you could use DMDE, ddrescue, photorec, or testdisk to restore the files.
Or even something nonfree like recuva.
But this is why you’re supposed to do backups in 3s!

HRM. I may have to try this on an old disk that got accidentally formatted years ago that I haven’t touched since.
Thanks.

If you can’t do it drunk don’t do it sober.

Well you know, it’s 2 AM, you’ve had a couple beers, and you say to yourself “you know what would be a GREAT idea, if I split these two RAID arrays and rearrange the disks so that the ones with pristine SMART are more evenly distributed!”

I mean, you think it’s more enjoyable doing that sober?
