It’s true. Even the world’s poorest are materially richer and better informed than people in their position in the past. Due to the advance of society’s demands it means they aren’t any better off though.

Extremely poor pre-modern utilization of labor in peacetime meant that the gain of war could be much greater than the expense of it, tbf.

No. People’s economic output was just much lower, and resources like land were limited. Compared to the postindustrial economy where people’s labor make more resources.
War is still waged because world leaders are bloodthirsty ghouls.
