After some research prompted by your comment I think my French/ignorance might be showing, as the correct word would be species.
Is the word for race & species in French the same? Just trying to understand the mix-up!
No I don’t even really have that excuse because we do have the word “espèce” which would be the direct translation of species, but I think in every day language people would use them a bit interchangeably.
