I mean you joke but it might be a war horde, the Japanese were and are pretty well known for burying horrific collections taken from war that they build temples over.
Don’t get me wrong it’s not particularly unique to Japan but goddamn did they excel at it.

That’s fair, I take back the ancient part… but I’ve seen enough films to know that gold is guarded by malevolent spirits bent on revenge.
