Al Jazeera surely is biased in favor of Arabs and Palestinians. The Western media is also clearly biased in favor of Israel and western imperialism. Therefore, it’s an important non-western perspective for trying to understand a complex issue, particularly for Americans who know more about the Kardashians than they know about what’s happening in the world.
Comment on US asks Qatar to 'turn down the volume' of Al Jazeera news coverage
Hyperreality@kbin.social 1 year agoHere's the thing, if you're unwilling to admit that Al-Jazeera is biased in favour of Hamas, you have taken a position.
Have fun pretending to take the higher ground.

I strongly you suggest you actually read this:

Skip the bits on western countries. Focus on Arab countries.
Fatah, the Palestinians who run the West Bank, have repeatedly called Al Jazeera biased in favour of Hamas and even at one point banned it. It's a common complaint in the Arab world, not just the western world.

Why would people read sources from someone who’s dodging questions and changing the subject.

Which question did I dodge?

You may as well change your username to “BLOCKME” at this point. You are not worth having conversations with.

Go right ahead.
A person who experiences internal inconsistency tends to become psychologically uncomfortable and is motivated to reduce the cognitive dissonance. They tend to make changes to justify the stressful behavior, either by adding new parts to the cognition causing the psychological dissonance (rationalization) or by avoiding circumstances and contradictory information likely to increase the magnitude of the cognitive dissonance (confirmation bias). Coping with the nuances of contradictory ideas or experiences is mentally stressful. It requires energy and effort to sit with those seemingly opposite things that all seem true. Festinger argued that some people would inevitably resolve the dissonance by blindly believing whatever they wanted to believe

“if you’re unwilling to admit that X is biased in favor ofY you have taken a position.”
I mean yeah, but when everything is biased, and it sure as shit is, then you kinda have to take the good with the bad.
Everything you just said applies just as well as “if you are unwilling to admit that US media sources in general are biased in favor of Israel you have taken a position.”
It’s honestly odd to me that you think that the media consumed having a bias automatically means you agree with that bias.
additionally, it’d be odd if the govt owned media that reports to a government who wants to do what it can to help extremely disaffected minorities in nation-states where they are viciously oppressed. The fact that Hamas may be at fault doesn’t really figure in. Are they terrorists? Yeah kinda. Are there viable options that aren’t violence for them? Not really? Is that more than partially their fault? Sure.
Buuut does it matter to the US when our effectively state owned media decides to call the leader of a nation a dictator until he agrees to an oil deal with the US at which point he becomes a legitimate head of state?
GtfO with your oversimplification and demagoguery

Do you think Hamas had no choice but to murder members of Fatah, seize control in the Gaza strip, and undermine Palestinian unity?
Baahb@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Only as hopelessly out of my depth as you are. Difference is I’m openly staying the fact and you are merely pretending.
You think Palestinian unity was gonna fix the problems with Israel? Funny.
