Comment on Would hate to see what a villain is
FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 1 week agoProbably super-fundamentalist christians. Jack the Ripper attacked prostitutes, after all.
as a side note, an antihero is a person whose not a good person but does good things, usually for greedy or selfish motives, but also sometimes becasue, well. they’re not that bad.
Killdozer (marvin heeymeyer) is an antihero, for example.

What good did he do or resulted from his actions?
Wikipedia says
What part of that is good?
I’m seriously baffled by the hero worship for this obviously ego driven person that snapped and simply lashed out.

I had never heard of this event before, but this is like the third time I’ve seen it referenced this week. Why is this suddenly back in the zeitgeist?

It depends on who you talk to. Libertarians will cite standing up against corruption.
Granted, the asshole was shooting .50 cal rounds into propane tanks with the hope of creating an explosion, so he’s far from someone to worship.
And yes. He’s certainly a whack job. The zoning issues being the source of the perceived corruption (the sewer issues and access are… well he could have been made whole but was intransigent. I’m not sure he was ever actually blocked off from road access.)

That doesn’t really sound like a good result but just juvenile need of standing your ground and proving your power and “not taking shit”. So yeah, typical libertarians shit the idolise.

No part of it. He was a whackjob that, entirely by luck and his own incompetence, managed not to kill anyone. Asshole had almost no visibility but still decided to flatten a playground, tried to detonate propane tanks, repeatedly attacked occupied buildings. He had greviances, a few of them legitimate, but none of them remotely justifying repeated attempted murder of completely unrelated people.
People like him because the story has been heavily romanticized and they’ve never done any investigation into it beyond things like youtube videos or comments on forums like reddit or lemmy that present a different narrative to the one on wikipedia - one that is just not supported by the evidence.
