You bought into the propaganda of rugid individualism way too hard. Our society is better when it does something to help those who are in a tough spot.
I never said the government needs more money to solve these things. It already has plenty of money, it justs wastes it on stupid shit like fossil fuel subsidies, overseas bases, the military, etc.
