  I loved the 100’s of ‘leaked’ mugshots from a few years ago of the ‘prisoners’.
  All quite good generic Uyghur faces but with a button in weird places and other anomalies what we know recognize as AI artefacts.
  Didn’t even bother to do some Photoshopping.

  BTW don’t they have orange suits in Guantanamo where they hold Uyghur terrorists?

    FWIW, I got it from wp:Persecution of Uyghurs in China; though yes, both the extreme left and extreme right tend not to like Wikipedia.

    As it’s a non-free image, I think it’s intentionally degraded in order to better argue fair use.

    Maybe the Uighur genocide should be put into wv:Category:Wikidebates.

    The Guantanamo detentions are, of course, unjust, as was the state-sanctioned murder of Osama bin Ladan (who should have been tried in the US proper, with Bill of Rights followed (but alas, Obama had an election to win)).

    That said, I don’t think 100 000s, much less million, have gone to re-education camps in Guantanamo;

    and yes, the Chinese commies will say that the Uighurs weren’t extracted from Central Asia, like America has extracted many from that area—I’ll grant them that; but as I’m a bit sympathetic to anarchism and regard nation-states as fictions, state cults, with 100s of millions of adherents, it’s somewhat of a moot point to me.

    It’s like the current US-Iran war: they’re both wrong, and I wish neither Trump and Hegseth, nor the theo-fascists who rule Iran success.

      Indeed, ALL the anti-China Uyghur propaganda traces back to ‘guided by God’ Adrian Zenz.
      And wikipedia is indeed garbage for anything political since it’s easily manipulated and astroturfed.
      Does knowing that simple fact make you extreme?

      Palestine is massively controlled and has much lower smartphone ownership rate.
      Yet videos from atrocities reach us all the time.
      Where are those from Xinjiang? Double the population.

      Yes China has jails and prisoners, also in Xinjiang, shocker!
      Because they have criminals like everywhere else.
      Even terrorists, funded as always by the west to serve a purpose, as in Syria and Somalia,etc…

      When they hijack planes, bomb buses and do suicide attacks they get put in jail.
      Has China do everything perfectly and with velvet gloves? Probably not.
      Nobody’s perfect.
      The situation has been under control for a long time now and the vast majority are normal people living normal lives.
      Of course the western propaganda machine exagerated, lied and keeps milking this now non-issue.
      As they verifiably lie about any country they don’t like.

      Obama had indeed an election to win.
      If they really got Bin Laden after 15 years I’m sure they would’ve showned the videos of the heroic raid all day long.
      But nothing.
      And if you believe the batshit crazy story that they took his body but somehow for some reason decided to throw his body overboard I have some land to sell you.

      And no, Iran is not wrong, only the aggressor the US.
      But anarchists wouldn’t know better and for some reason they always end up fighting some "authoritarian regime’ taking the side of the authoritarian imperialist western regime.

      But anyway you believe what you want and maybe you’ll inform yourself and possibly grow out of the edgy teen anarchist fase.

        I think Israel, as bad as it is, has (or at least until recently had) freer speech than the PRC. Hamas can probably smuggle things out. Also presumably if one went 20 km east or west from any part of Gaza or the West Bank, one would be either in Israel proper, the Mediterranean, or Jordan.

        Travel 10x that distance from Ürümqi, and one will probably still be in the PRC.

        I wonder if a chip could be inserted into a baseball and thrown over the wall into Israel.
