Isn’t this more that China has added AI to their pre-existing efforts as dictating reality to their citizens. Most of this is nothing new.

Yep. This is barely a change for China, just an amplification of their existing power over their people. It has a much larger impact in the US and other Western countries where prior to now the government hasn’t had nearly as strong of a grip on public discourse. Not good in any case though.
